How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?
With All-on-4, the denture is connected directly to the jawbone using special implants, and this means only four are needed to secure an entire row of teeth. With this small number of posts, the implants and denture can both be placed in a single appointment in a matter of hours.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Implants?
All-on-4 is often recommended for patients who want to replace their teeth with implants as fast as possible, or they aren’t good candidates for regular implant dentures. This can be because their jawbone is too thin to support the greater number of posts needed.
Also, as with any implant procedure, it’s important that the patient be in generally good health and free of any ongoing dental issues.
Benefits of All-on-4 Implants
- Shortest way to restore missing teeth with dental implants
- Allows for a stronger bite compared to removable dentures
- Implants prevent the jawbone from shrinking over time
- Smaller prosthetic feels great and looks natural
- Implants can be trusted to last for 30+ years
All-On-4 vs. Traditional Implants
The difference between All-on-4 and traditional implants comes down to two factors—size and positioning.
All-on-4 posts are longer, which means they go further into the jawbone than regular implants. This helps them maximize a patient’s existing bone density, which often means we don’t need to perform a bone graft first.
And the posts are placed in specific locations. Two are put at the very front of the jaw, and the other two are toward the back on either side at a slight angle. This is where the jawbone is naturally at its thickest, and the slight tilt makes the implants more stable than if they were just straight up and down.
